Life in Hell

Before the Simpsons, there was Life in Hell.

A series of comics books many of us who didn’t fit in as adolescents related to.

Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons started his career with this comic strip and still seems to have a special place in his heart for it, as do we!

Life in Hell main hero, at it’s height was Binky, the rabbit seen above, describe best in Wikipedia as  ”bitter, depressed and thus “normal” rabbit who embodies dread and alienation.   I’d add lovable to the mix.

As the series has evolved, Mat Groening has move the focus much more to his two characters,  Akbar & Jeff who he describes as “brothers or lovers…and possibly both”.

Personally, my love fell for the series, as these characters were slightly harder to relate to.  However, living in the Castro has made it a lot easier for me to know the type of people they were based on and gain a second love for them.
