Tintin

Tintin, for many around the world is more than a comic, but a way children first experience the wonders of the world.
Probably the most popular comic series in all countries but the US, Tintin is an altruistic journalist who is more than willing to jump into any adventure around the world.
His companions include his dog snowy (or Milo in some translations) , Captain Haddok, a retired sea captain (who may also be the first exposure of many children to alcoholism!), a professor, and two buffons passing as detectives.
Many have taken issues with TinTin’s cultural stereotypes, however, considering the time these books were written, and the actuall impact of the stereotypes, vs the wonder and exitement which the world opens up.
There ’s such a fanbase that a restaurant dedicated to Tintin, Le Petit Abeille, exists in New York, as well as a full on fansource.

My Tintin DVD series is even a better piece of art on the shelf than in the DVD player
Update: 10/01/2009.
We’ve been informed that Tintin’s legacy has expanded even further. Brussels now has a museum dedicated to the artwork of Herge, the creator of Tintin. You can see more info about this museum at this site.

The image of the books together stuck in my mind and I knew it was something I’d love to own one day. (I’m a sucker for these, as also seen in the Tintin DVD collection) [...]
